Seeking Purity in an Age of Impurity

How do we raise our children in purity within a hypersexualized, pleasure seeking culture? Perhaps the first place to start is to understand what it means to be pure. St. John Cassian writes, “The following severe saying is reported of St. Basil, the Bishop of Caesarea: ‘I know not woman and yet I am not a virgin.’ By this he [St. Basil] means that bodily purity consists not so much in forswearing women but in integrity of heart. For it maintains a perpetual incorrupt holiness of heart whether from the fear of God or from love of purity.” In this session, Fr. Josiah will explore what these profound words given to us by the Holy Fathers mean for raising children today within the current cultural climate. What is the path towards which “incorrupt holiness of heart” in the day-to-day living of the family is cultivated such that our children can both nurture and preserve their purity?
