Jamie is the middle of seven children, all of whom were homeschooled. (You can learn more about his homeschooling experience here). His family converted to Orthodoxy when he was 4 years old. Now living in Washington State and attending St. John the Forerunner in Beaverton, Oregon, Jamie grew up in and around San Jose, California and graduated from UC Berkeley in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Economy.
After six years at a financial firm—the latter four as a writer—Jamie started coaching public speaking full time in Fall 2020. Typical students are either working professionals aiming to conquer nerves & speak more effectively at their jobs, or teenagers who struggle to express ideas and/or speak up in class or social settings. You can learn more on his website.
While the “full-time job” as a speech coach is new & exciting, Jamie has been helping folks build communication skills & confidence since he was 17, when he and his siblings started running annual week-long camps at their parents’ house for aspiring high school debaters. Since that time he has gone on to teach speech within both academic and corporate settings. Jamie has also spent thousands of hours presenting—in sports radio broadcasting, competitive forensics/debate, corporate settings, stand-up comedy and podcasting. He has been involved in the competitive speech arena for many years both as a competitor and as a judge.
Beyond teaching speech, Jamie enjoys visiting family and friends, recording his Word of the Day podcast, playing chess, & exploring the Pacific Northwest by bike or on foot.
